Hiring Criteria: Interest in politics. Strong research, writing, and organizational skills. Ideal candidate will be able to access large amounts of information, identify important elements, and summarize efficiently. Ability to understand and follow instructions very important. Understanding of the legislative process useful. Should have a general understanding of the major public policy issues of importance to Oregon.
Position Description: Summer internship for 1L or 2L: 10weeks. Review testimony, documentation, legislative history, publications, public databases, and media at direction of Legislative Director. May participate in legislative hearings/drafting of materials for Senator and public. Should expect to develp greater understanding of legislative process in general and the operations of the U.S. Senate in particular. Job is structured so ". . . student will have the single best window on high-level (Senate) policy work available to a non-staffer."
