American Legal Biography

Professor Mooney is an authority on and has written extensively about American legal history and contract law. His major work in progress is a judicial biography of Matthew Deady, Oregon's first federal district judge. He has won law school and university awards for teaching excellence. Mooney joined the UO faculty in 1972, after working with Howard, Prim, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady & Pollak in San Francisco, specializing in commercial litigation before federal and state courts and administrative agencies.

Mooney escapes overseas to teach or lecture whenever possible. He spent his last two sabbaticals teaching at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand and University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. He also has made two extended trips to Ukraine and one to Georgia (the other Georgia) to teach judges, lawyers, and law students about American contract and commercial law. Finally, he spent a lovely spring recently in Provence teaching American undergraduates about American and French law (and French wine).
