Tribes as Trustees Again

In April 2007, the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics sponsored a lecture and workshop by Professor Mary Wood on the use of conservation trust law by tribes to protect aboriginal lands and resources. This one-day working symposium convened tribal leaders and staff, government officials, and land trust professionals to provide input and perspectives on the emerging tribal role in the conservation trust movement. Inspired by the fruitful discussion, Professor Wood has since delivered two speeches and has two articles forthcoming on the topic.

Morse workshop participants Zach Welcker, UO Morse Center Fellow, and Joe McCormick, Nez Perce Tribal Fisheries, at Payette Lake, Idaho with Professor Mary Wood.
