2009 Northwest Regional Legal Writing Conference

The Northwest Regional Legal Writing Conference was held in Portland, Oregon, on August 28-29, 2009, sponsored by Lewis & Clark Law School and the University of Oregon School of Law. The conference was organized by Toni Berres-Paul and Rebekah Hanley.

The conference theme was Legal Writing in a Green World: Recycle, Reuse, Rethink. The Legal Writing Prof Blog covered the conference in four posts that summarized presentations and included pictures of participants (and a shot of Portland's famous Voodoo Donuts). You can see Nancy Soonpaa's blogs from September 2 and 6 by clicking here.

Scholars' Forum Information

Portland, Oregon
August 28, 2009

Please consider participating in the day-long Northwest Regional Legal Writing Conference Scholars' Forum on Friday, August 28, 2009. The forum, which is funded by ALWD, will take place in downtown Portland, at the University of Oregon's White Stag Building.

The forum will present an opportunity for new -- and experienced -- scholars to generate ideas, learn about the writing process, find mentors, and set appropriate deadlines for completion. Thus, it will encourage and support members of the legal writing community who are in the process of producing a scholarly work. More specifically, it should help to move writers from idea to work-in-progress and from work-in-progress to polished, publishable piece.

Each forum participant will be required to bring some idea, no matter how developed. Each participant will be placed in a group with other individuals who are at a similar stage of the writing process. For instance, one group will bring together those with works-in-progress and another will be composed of those still developing ideas and conducting research.

Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, with no preference for people from the Northwest. All participants are welcomed. The forum will have no registration fee.

To participate, please contact Suzanne Rowe.
