Oregon Law Alumna Justice Martha Walters Elected President of Uniform Law Commission

The University of Oregon School of Law recently learned that Alumna Justice Martha Walters was elected president of the Uniform Law Commission (ULC).

Walters, a 1977 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law, is the first woman elected president in the 116-year history of the ULC.  Walters was first appointed to the Conference from Oregon in 1992.  She was president of Walters, Romm, Chanti & Dickins, a Eugene, Ore., law firm, and was appointed to the Oregon Supreme Court in 2006. 

The ULC is comprised of more than 350 practicing attorneys, judges, law professors, legislators and other state officials – all lawyers – appointed to research, draft and promote enactment of uniform state laws in areas where uniformity is desirable and practical.  Commissioners donate their time as a pro bono public service.
