Have you downloaded or shared music? Ever thought about it? Have you seen the new Apple iPhone? Did your boss use a BlackBerry during a meeting? Thinking about starting up a business?

Lawyers from various sectors discuss the importance of Intellectual Property in all aspects of business. This panel discussion benefits students interested in IP law, but also those with an interest in any sort of business law. Students learn how Copyrights, Trademarks, and Patents affect everyday entrepreneurs.

Karri Bradley, Ph.D.
Dr. Bradley is an associate attorney for Klarquist Sparkman LLP, one of the top Intellectual Property firms in the Northwest. She obtained a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1996, and then earned a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law in 2004. Dr. Bradley joined the firm in 2006 where she prepares and prosecutes patent applications in the medical, chemical, biotechnical, and pharmaceutical fields. She is a member of both the Nebraska and Oregon bars, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Michael M. Ratoza, Of Counsel
Mr. Ratoza is an attorney with over 30 years of experience, employed in the Portland law office of Bullivant Houser Bailey PC. His practice emphasizes intellectual property. Mr. Ratoza’s experience lies in the fields of copyright, trademark, domain name, Internet business and trade secret law, including registration prosecutions and oppositions, I.P. licensing, rights protection and anti-piracy. He has represented both large and small merchandisers, rights owners, publishers, authors, musicians, film owners and many other I.P. owners and creative developers. In addition, Mr. Ratoza is an adjunct law professor at the University of Oregon School of Law, where he teaches Copyright law.

Travis Young, Ph.D.
Dr. Young is an associate attorney for Klarquist Sparkman LLP, one of the top Intellectual Property firms in the Northwest. He obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and then began working for Klarquist Sparkman shortly thereafter. He became a registered patent agent in 2003, and then obtained his J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2005. Now as a member of the Oregon bar, Dr. Young prepares and prosecutes both U.S. and International patents, with a focus in the chemical arts, including pharmaceuticals, drug delivery, nanotechnology, spectroscopy, and metallurgy.
