MISSION STATEMENT
The Labor and Employment Group at Oregon (“LEGO”) is a student run organization dedicated to: (1) providing University of Oregon law students with information on career options within the labor and employment practice areas; (2) holding events and meetings and providing speakers to discuss current issues in labor and employment law; (3) promoting labor and employment law curriculum on the University campus generally by expanding course offerings, clinic, and internship and externship offerings.
LEGO By-Laws
- The official name of this organization is LEGO
- Membership is open both to alumni and current students of the University of Oregon School of Law. Members are those who attend, or participate in the organization of any of LEGO’s activities. Only current members may vote on decisional matters. LEGO shall not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, religion, age, gender, sexual-orientation, or political beliefs.
- ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
- Board Structure – LEGO will be managed by the Board composed of the following members:
- Director/Co-Director(s) will oversee LEGO’s general management and serve as primary liaison between law school community and LEGO.
- Event Coordinator will: (a) organize and promote LEGO’s events (b) recruit speakers; (c) inform student body of upcoming events; (d) all other administrative functions associated with event planning
- Secretary-Treasurer will: (a) take minutes at all LEGO meetings; (b) act as a financial liaison to ASUO (c) oversee LEGO finances
- External Relations Committee Head will primarily work with Career Services to develop and maintain a database of labor and employment career opportunities
- Curriculum Committee Head will primarily work with the Law School administration to expand course offerings, clinic, and internship and externship offerings.
- Representatives will develop an understanding of LEGO’s overall organizational structure and functions to ensure consistent and efficient operations from year-to-year.
- Board Member Selection
- Elections
Board members shall be elected by a plurality vote of LEGO members in April of each year (starting in 2006).
- Term of Service
Board members term of service shall be one calendar year following elections.
- Removal from office
A 2/3 majority vote of LEGO members can remove any Board member from office. The votes to remove the Board member will be cast at well-publicized meeting to take place at least one week in advance of the vote.
- BY-LAW AMENDMENT
Members seeking to amend the by-laws must introduce the proposed amendment at the Board Member elections in the spring. All proposed amendments must be introduced and voted on at the Board Member elections in the spring. Proposed amendments will require a majority vote for ratification.
