5th Annual Public Service Day

Saturday, April 5, 2005

10 a.m. - Brunch in the Knight Law Center Commons

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Public Service Events at various locations in the Eugene/Springfield area

2008 Public Service Day partners include Mount Pisgah Arboretum, Save the Pets, Food for Lane County and other local organizations.

Participating Oregon Law students may apply five Public Interest Public Service hours towards the requirement for the Oregon Law Students Public Interest Fund stipend.

Public Service Day draws record numbers. Approximately 80 students, professors, and community members attended Public Service Day this year. PIPS partnered with community organizations including Mount Pisgah Arboretum, Save the Pets, Nearby Nature, Food for Lane County, and Willamalane Parks & Recreation. Thanks to all who participated to make this event a great success!


PIPS Fall Speaker Series
David Cobb: "How Fair and Open are Elections in the US?"

David Cobb, an attorney who was the Green Party's candidate in the 2004 presidential election, will speak at the University of Oregon School of Law on Wednesday evening, October 24, at 7:00 p.m. in room 175. This event is open to the general public free of charge.

Cobb will discuss systemic problems in the electoral process. He will address a provocative topic: "How Fair and Open Are Elections in the United States?" Cobb will discuss the role that attorneys and other citizens can play in ensuring fairness and encouraging widespread participation in elections.

Cobb was prominent in advocating for a recount of Ohio's ballots in the 2004 presidential election. He continues his work for election reform as a fellow with the Liberty Tree Foundation for the Democratic Revolution.

This event is sponsored by the Public Interest/Public Service program at the University of Oregon School of Law, along with the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics.

Adam Gross to Keynote Public Interest Law Symposium to be Held At Law School

Interested in a career in environmental, immigration, or criminal law? Want to know more about working in public interest law of any kind? On Friday, September 28, from noon to 4:30 p.m., the University of Oregon School of Law Public Interest Public Service ("PIPS") program presents its 2007 PIPS Public Interest Law Symposium, titled "Changing the World Through Public Service."

Adam Gross, Director of the Regional Affordable Housing Initiative for the Chicago-based Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, will give the keynote address. The event will also feature panel presentations on criminal law, environmental law, immigration law, pro bono, and the nuts and bolts of working in the public interest.
