Mission Statement

Our purpose is to reach out into the community and educate lay people, specifically high school students and college students, about their constitutional rights under the Fourth Amendment and Article I, §9 of the Oregon Constitution.

What do we do?

We use a hands-on approach by going into high school classrooms and dorms and teaching students about search and seizure law. We write our own lesson plans based on previous years experiences, reinforcing our legal education. This year we are planning on teaching about three or four classes per semester.

Why should you do it?

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in criminal law, civil rights, and supporting your community. You will gain valuable skills in translating the law, first hand knowledge in legal procedure, experience with attorney-client relationships, and gain pro bono hours. StreetLaw is excellent preparation for any summer job, offering experience in answering tough legal questions as a law student. Additionally, the search and seizure StreetLaw program will help you prepare for the bar exam as well as the following classes:

• Criminal Procedure
• Defense Clinic
• Oregon Practice and Procedure
• Prosecution Clinic
• Trial Practice
