A study opportunity for University of Oregon students made possible by an exchange agreement
between the University of Oregon and the University of Adelaide.

Adelaide, South Australia
Founded in 1836, Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia is known throughout the world for its quality of life and strong tradition of cultural activities. It is a city of approximately one million people and is the center of the economic, cultural, political, and social life of the State.
Adelaide is a well-planned and uncongested city. A parkland belt runs along the Torrens River and a green belt surrounds the central city. The mild climate is ideal for a variety of outdoor activities including swimming, sailing, windsurfing at nearby beaches, hiking, and exploring.
The internationally famous Adelaide Festival celebrates the city's love of music, drama, dance and the visual arts. The South Australian Museum houses the world's largest collection of aboriginal artifacts. The city of Adelaide combines creativity and liveliness with a low cost of living and safe and pleasant environment.
University of Adelaide
The University of Adelaide was founded in 1874 less than 30 years after the first settlers arrived. It is one of the country's leading research institutions and was the first to establish a Conservatorium of Music and was the first to confer degrees to women on equal terms with men.
The University of Adelaide's main campus reflects its late 19th century origins with a blend of old and new buildings in a shady, well-landscaped setting. It resembles the older English universities, with stone buildings, a 'great hall', enclosing walls and the Torrens River. Located on North Terrace, in the heart of the city, the main campus is close to restaurants, entertainment, parks, shops and the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
The student body is diverse with a broad range of social, economic, political and academic backgrounds. There are over 4,000 international students from 65 countries in attendance.
The University of Adelaide Law School is the third oldest and one of the most respected in Australia and has an established reputation for excellence in teaching and research. The law school covers all significant areas of law in its degree programs and as the practice of law has become more complex and specialized, programs have been developed to help practitioners broaden their knowledge of specialized areas of law. Academic Program
University of Oregon students will choose their courses of study with the assistance of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at UO School of Law. The course of study must comply with the American Bar Association's Independent Study Program. Both the University of Oregon and the University of Adelaide will approve the student's course of study. Additionally, students may enroll in subjects offered in the Adelaide LLM program, provided space is available. Course descriptions are available on-line, http://access.adelaide.edu.au/. (Note: You will actually be enrolled in courses at the University of Adelaide, taught by Adelaide faculty. This is a very different kind of opportunity than many study abroad programs hosted by law schools.)
Academic Calendar
Students accepted to participate in this program will attend the University of Adelaide Law School Semester 1 (March 3 - July 5, 2008) or Semester 2 (July 28 - November 22, 2008). Orientation is scheduled for the week of February 18th. While this is not required, previous students have found it to be a great way to meet other international students, get acquainted, and find roommates.
Eligibility, Applications and Deadlines
To be eligible, UO Law students must have an overall GPA of 3.00 or above and have completed one year of law school. (First-year law students may now apply for the July through November 2008 semester.) Due to ABA requirements, the School of Law sends a maximum of four students each year. It is possible that some applicants who meet the eligibility requirements may not be selected.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, October 15th, 2007. Selection for the program will be based on a review of the student's written application, transcripts, recommendations, and personal interview. Applications will be collected at the Law School Administration Office reception desk.
UO students will pay UO law school tuition and resources fee. Those and other fees are itemized on the following page.
Students selected for the program will receive a pre-departure checklist to assist with requirements prior to departure. It is also important to work closely with the UO International Affairs.
